Hijacking A Neighbourhood....

I know these days, 'Hijacking' a Neighbourhood isn't very politically correct.

Okay, no one is held against their will...
and no firearms or other weapons are put in place.

Generally we eat dinner in the vicinity at a friends house -
(and maybe they have a baby, or no kids at all...we are in 'that' age) ,
and one time, we plain and simple, drove-in and drove-out.
(But that didn't feel so nice. :( )

You always hope that no one realizes you do not actually live 'in' the neighbourhood.
In fact, as years have gone by, i've started wearing a mask.

Our pledge:
If we borrow your neighbourhood for the evening ,
you can almost guarantee that:

a) our pumpkin is on someone's step nearby.
b) someone is giving out our candy.
c) we go no further than 1.5 blocks...for now.

We try to do our part; but what is given to these kids from borrowing your neighbourhood if only for a night is immeasurable.

ps- due to us living in the country, we do not have a 'real' neighbourhood to trick or treat in.

Tell Me Tuesday

Tell Me Tuesday with Canadian Mama
Hosted by Canadian Mama

YAY, time for another edition of Tell Me Tuesday!

Last week, i dared you to think about yourself in highschool. What kind of person were you? How were you perceived by others? Have you changed or not changed?

2011 will mark my 15th year since having graduated from highschool (did i just say that out loud??). I cannot believe all the things that have transpired over those years. Heck, if i thought i knew all life had to tell me in highschool, i was sadly mistaken. That is not to say, i was a mean/snobby/bullyish teen. I was pretty middle of the road, but genuinely always nice to all others. How could i not be?? I played 5 sports and hung out with the 'athletic' types... but during class time, i was in the 'Gifted' program. Yeah, uh hum. So why belittle the nerdier types in my 'Gifted' class when i really really needed them to help me through math!!? Not smart.

Most of you agreed that highschool was not a part of your fonder memories. It was what it was, no more no less. Glad we won't be repeating the experience.  No one commented that they were horribly teased or picked on, but one of you did admit that they were horribly bitchy to others in highschool!  She also admitted that she had apologized for her actions and at least, acknowledged her former self. That is something not very easy to do and does take a lot of soul searching; i commend her on that personal growth.  One other commenter said that she had not changed at all since highschool and believed she was the same person.  But really??  I'm not sure i fully believe that.

Yep, highschool.  The days of dreamy seniors and acne...

I did NOT find myself in highschool--i found only part of myself.  But not the part i like the most...  In University i ditched most knowns and found the rest of me (and a hubby too!).  I found out that i CAN dance.  I found out that i was a very independent soul, grooving on her own path-- in highschool, we all dream of fitting in and even of being popular.  University taught me to ditch all the pretention and do what made ME happy!  (Instead of what made others happy.)

Tell Me Tuesday This Week:
With Hallowe'en looming near, i would love to know about the best costume you EVER wore??  Was it homemade?  Storebought?  Rental?  What made it the BEST!?
I'd also like to know if you are the type that dresses up for the kiddos who come to your door, or even while you take your own kids trick o'treating??

I really believe that Hallowe'en is one of the best days out there!  Talk about stepping outside of ourselves- highschool has nothing on Hallowe'en!

I can't wait to hear all about it!

I've been tagged.

Okay, so i've been tagged. It has been awhile since i have participated in these types of games, but since my mother-in-law @ Steadfast Ahoy is the one who tagged me...i feel i should comply (wink wink- love you Rosemary!).

Yowzers-sheesh! She sure did choose some hard questions...

Here we go!

1. Where would you like to live if you could choose with impunity?

Hmm...i majored in the English Language during University and i still had to look up the word impunity.  Now that i have that out of the way, where would i live?

I like living somewhere that has four seasons (yes, we do have four seasons--just three of them are not very long!).  I could do with more water and sandy beaches, but not necessarily ocean.  Once you have a mountain, you can't not have a mountain.  So maybe, Italy?  I think Italy would be a nice choice.  Plus, a country full of pasta and vino can't be all bad...can it?

2. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Good grief - i have no idea!  Growing up sounds scary!  I am in denial on this one.

3. What would you change if you could?

Weekends would be longer and we'd all have more vacation time.  Of course, i could say that there would be no hunger and everyone in the world could feel loved... but darnit, this blog is about me!

4. Who do you admire most and why?

The Queen.  That lady has one heck of a job.  Imagine growing up and being told that you are the future king or queen?  Amazing.

But i do, also, admire my mother-in-law.  She is always learning and that constantly impresses me.  And she obviously, has a better vocabulary than i.

Now...i am to tag a few other lucky souls!

Catherine @ The Dabels Divulge
Casey of California @ The Starnes Family
Matty @ Matty's Thoughts
Ashley @ Adventures In Vineyardland

And, here are your questions:

1.  What is the nicest thing you have ever done for anyone?
2.  What inspires you?
3.  If you could go anywhere for a vacation and time/money is not an issue, where would it be and what would you do?
4.  When was the last time you were drunk?  In-tox-i-cated.

Have fun with these questions- i do look forward to your answers!

And remember to pass it on....TAG, YOU ARE IT!

A True Canadian Icon does Beiber

I know what you are going to say.... huh, another video??  It has been a video week for sure!  Just too many things popping my way worth sharing.  I promise this is the last video for the week and that while i have been posting these, i have been madly working on some BIG posts!

Enjoy!

Tell Me Tuesday

Tell Me Tuesday with Canadian Mama
Hosted by Canadian Mama

Yay, it is time to play Tell Me Tuesday again!

If you've been playing along, last week i asked for your advice on good, natural ways to clean and protect all the wood furniture and cabinetry in my house.

I have to say, it wasn't the best Tell Me Tuesday for an answer i have been in search of! LOL I know Murphy's Oil Soap to be a good product, but hello..it is not all natural. I want my kiddos to be able to drink it- might not taste great, but it won't kill them.

Okay, so poor me...still with no awesome answer ... but back with a whole new question!

Tell Me Tuesday this week:

What were you like in highschool??  Have you stayed the same as your highschool self?   If you have changed for the better/worse, what inspired the change?

(I asked this question on my Facebook last week and was absolutely in love with the conversation and truthfulness of all those who answered- let's see how you all do!)

Tell Me Tuesday

Tell Me Tuesday with Canadian Mama
Hosted by Canadian Mama

Last week, i asked you all to Tell Me what your favourite Thanksgiving dishes are?  The answers were all so yummy, i almost started cooking right away!  Quite a few of you were perfectly okay with just the turkey, stuffing, gravy, and rolls part;  while Green Bean Casserole,Whole Cranberry sauce, Brussel Sprouts in Butter Sauce and Pumpkin pie also made the list!

Someone suggested she might skip the whole Thanksgiving to-do since it was her birthday  (Totally understandable in my opinion).  While another said she'd be missing Ham and Turkey a LOT this year due to a new vegetarian lifestyle.

One dish that did surprise me as a favourite (even as i searched for recipes) was Mac n' Cheese.  No one in my family has ever included this, nor the in-law family.  I am not even sure what surprised me about its addition to many menus?

And Stuffing & Lima Beans???  I NEED to hear more about that!~ (especially if i could substitute with Soybeans?)

Our menu this year was:
Turkey
*Apple & Sausage Stuffing (with pork)
Homegrown Mashed Red Potatoes
Homegrown Carrots
Green Bean Casserole
Rosemary & Garlic Bread
Gravy
Pumpkin Cheesecake
Homemade Apple Pie (Thanks CHN!)
*A new recipe attempt this year!

Can we say, stuffed??

I even turned the turkey carcass into soup- phew!
Turkey cravings are now over, till at least Christmas.

Here's hoping your Thanksgiving weekend was as filling as mine- family AND food wise.  (It's okay USA, you'll have your turn soon.)

Tell Me Tuesday This Week:
I am looking for a way to clean all the wood furniture in my house, using only all-natural product (Furniture only and not floors).  Currently i am using Method's Wood For Good, which i like.  The problem:  I have so much wood (all cabinetry etc too) furniture that i can easily use half a bottle at a time!!  I need something more cost effective.

Do you have any good home-made wood cleaning &protecting concoctions you'd be willing to share?

I look forward to your suggestions!
