Some VERY Important Info!

Sheri, over at This Bird's Day posted some VERY important info on her blog today. And now, i am passing her along to you...

Save me writing it all out again, pop over and read it for yourself!

It applies to all Canadians (those short, pesky ones that call us Momma!)
and just may save a life.

No seriously.
Seriously important...And seriously free.
(But let's hope that none of us have to use it!)

Sundays In My City~ 33

Happy Birthday to Me!
I am 33!
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday,
Happy Birthday to Me!

Yep, today is MY day.

It has been a great birthday weekend so far, filled with many many extra calories! Friday kicked off the weekend with a massage, chinese food and red wine. Saturday- leftover chinese (is there anything better?) filled most earlier meals, while a moon-filled Earth Hour was spent snacking on fresh French bread and swiss cheese fondue.

All followed by a nice long soak in the hot tub. I cannot believe how big the moon was this evening; I am quite accustomed to my birthday being snowful.

So, cheers to me on my 33rd birthday...
still waiting on my DQ ice cream cake (YUMMY),

but life is good!

Be sure to hop on over to Unknown Mami, to see what the rest of the gang has been up to this week!

He idolizes his big sis...

Hamming it up...

always ruining pictures with his cheesy smile...

Attack!

Thank you Steph, Todd, Carter and Turner!
Beebo loves all the girlie things you sent for her birthday! We are truly thankful to have such great friends; no matter the distance in between.

Sundays In My City~ Busy Week!

Thanks G'ma Roe for the matching sweaters!

My new truck...next to 12 years old- Old Faithful!

What i now get to look at from my livingroom every night! (It's an oil rig)

Sidenote: Ironically, the oil rig and the new truck happened at the same time. The oil rig is not mine, but a neighbours. I can't be upset about it, because my truck so obviously needs crude. It's a vicious circle.

An Apology

Thank you to everyone who stroked my ego yesterday. I feel sorta bad for complaining about the cakes appearance. I know it is not *horrible*, but i did not even post the really good pictures of the crack in the middle of the cake-FILLED with icing. Or, i did not show you what the back looked like at all!

All that aside, i think there are always times where we just feel that we did not do our best. And that's okay, right?

My intention was not to illicit 'it looks really good!', but rather show you all something i was not entirely proud of. I could have done better... i have done better.

What did happen through this cake however, is i have now learned what could have been done better and will strive to utilize those methods next time.

I am not a pro, so this experience has served me well.

The 'Castle' was just not in the works for me this year.
And, it DID taste yummy! (That is always better than it actually tasting bad!)

Wordless Wednesday

Can we say, "Cake Train Wreck"??

I have made some good cakes over the years (a monkey, a ladybug, a panda bear, a truck), but this one TAKES THE CAKE...so to speak.

The cake was too moist (i should have froze it before i began icing) and i chose the wrong cake-decorator tip.

Some things are only fully realized, once it is too late.

BTW, it is a Castle...if you were not able to tell.

Happy St.Paddy's Day too!

Tell Me, Tell Me Tuesday

The snow is receding to unveil new beauty. Or, is it?
Some unusual findings in my yard...
i need YOUR help
!

The formation in the above three pictures has me puzzled. Could this be the work of mice??

Again, mice? Gosh, i don't think it would be a snake...

There was nothing here last year, before winter started. Any ideas?

*ps- credit should have been given to Just Another Mom blog for the title "Tell Me Tuesday." I apologize for this error.

Sundays In My City~ Cowtown goes Jurassic

My baby girl turned 4years old this weekend! Where has the time gone? It was Birthday Girls choice- so we were off to the Calgary Zoo for the day with her little boyfriend from school in tow (no, i haven't been hiding anyone from you). As you will see, we found much more than lions, tigers and bears (oh my!) at the zoo...

The Gang- ready to be scared!~

Xman roared back at every dino. He was completely in his element. All the dinos were motion sensored and moved and made noise-awesome!

Cr*p! Strolling into a T-Rex in the mountains is much scarier than a grizzly bear...

Trying to NOT lose anyone.

My favourite shot of the day!! I love the contrast of dinosaur to 'modern city life' in the background.

video

I hope your Sunday is going well, wherever you are. If you have a moment, be sure to pop over to Unknown Mami to see what the rest of the gang has been up to!

~TGIF!~

This week has seemed rather long, as far as weeks go...

We've been slightly cooped up with neverending fevers; trying to enjoy the warmth and sunshine of early spring on our faces, hidden beneath blankets on the porch. We are not a family who falls ill often, so when it is our time (or the kiddos), i am reminded how truly lucky we are!

On the 6th day, the fevers changed to coughs...and for Xman, an Ear Infection. I had been leaning towards that verdict for at least a day, but still had no solid symptoms to worry more. This day, he had a terrible-no-good-very-bad nap. Like, a *45minute- wakes screaming as if daggers are stabbing him*- kind of nap. Very unusual for the little man. Dealing with him after this was not fun, to say the least... and at dinner, when i sat down and took a really good look at him, i thought:
"Geez, he looks like total cr*p!"

He was feverish again (ugh), so he had a quick bath and some Tylenol and was off to bed.

Knowing what i know about E.I's, i figured if that is what it is, we'd be hearing from him soon. Yep... MommyO was right. Too bad. Xman woke screaming three times in 2hrs, was sitting up and would not calm without assistance (i'm very out of practice with this, my kiddos are pretty self reliant in this respect). When asked 'what hurts?', Xman pointed to his ears.

Living rurally smacks you in the eye from time to time. I guess it really makes us think about our decisions more, because it just isn't so easy to get up and go. It's night time...do you a)get him up, drag him to the hospital, and potentially ruin a whole night? Or b) try to at least deal with it till morning, when it can be dealt with sanely, at a sane hour?

Insert Jodi, and our answer...

We took some freshly squeezed garlic oil capsules (can you believe i was out of fresh garlic?) and mixed it with a dab of organic extra virgin olive oil. Using a Qtip, we coated his inner ear up. Sidenote: Xman did NOT enjoy this. Then, we left him and he went back to sleep.

Now, the skeptic in me said: "We'll see." Thinking i'd for sure see Xman one more time this night, needing another dose of the garlic/olive oil and some Tylenol. You know what? I heard nothing for the rest of the night- except for one peep- that i'll admit until i heard that, i was trying to figure out if it was possible to kill something other than vampires with garlic/olive oil?

I am impressed with this all-natural remedy. The good thing about it is that even if he doesn't have an E.I (we're still undiagnosed), this concoction will not harm a healthy ear. We're not 'out of the woods' yet, but so far, i have a much happier little boy and we're fever-less.

*Let me take you back to yesterday for a quick moment and may i just say- DARN. Now i'll have to endure Ashley's cracked psyche, on a trip around the world with the kidnapped bub. I just want the story to end-ugh!*

*PS~ I am not a doctor. My own opinion does not count as qualified medical advice.*
