Wordful Wednesday: A Poem

Last Friday was my Grandmothers funeral. I was not in attendance as I had already flown home to Alberta, but my brother read a poem that expressed our feelings. I have a difficult time getting through the words without crying, but that is perhaps because I was there for her final moments.  We love you Grandma more than you know and rejoice in knowing  you are finally resting peacefully.

God saw you getting tired
when healing was not to be
so he closed his arms around you
and whispered "come to me",
a golden heart stopped beating,
your gentle hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
he only takes the best.

In tears we saw you sinking,
we watched you fade away,
our hearts were almost broken,
you fought so hard to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping,
peacefully and free from pain,
we could not wish you back,
to suffer that again.

So keep your arms around her Lord,
and give her special care,
make up for all she suffered,
that seemed to us unfair,
so many times we've needed you,
so many times we've cried,
if love could have saved you,
you never would have died.

This is very beautiful. Our extended family lost a 6 month old baby just about a year ago. This beautiful poem has been used on his memorial site!
Sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing.
