The Meaning of Bliss

Last night, was possibly one of the best evenings we've had weather-wise so far. After putting the kids to bed (nice and tired too-- they spent most the day outside!), we retreated to the outdoors to have a fire. Evenings like this are too rare. Sitting inside watching tv would not be on the agenda.

Basking in the evening sky, we listened to the birds chirping. It has taken a few years of work on my part, to sort out the birds living around this house. When we moved in, i was very excited about all the bird houses around the property. Bursting with excitement, i filled them all up and awaited the birds. Well, i handily invited some Grackles... who handily drove all the pretty-singsongey birds away!

It took me awhile to figure it out too. I began to notice the lack of Gold Finches. I told myself that they had simply moved on and that my time of enjoyment was up. Then one day, when i was walking out the greenhouse to water plants, a Grackle swooped at me! I pretended that he did not really 'intend' to swoop on me, but then it happened again one my way back to the house! I vowed that Mr. Grackle had seen his last days around my house. (Note: The Grackle also woke me up every day with his ridiculous hooting and hollering around 5am!)

Running to Google with my issue, i was super excited to find out that the Grackle had a nickname. ( < insert > sarcasm here) "The Farmer's Pest." Sheesh- Mr. Grackle sure was a pest and apparently, all my bird houses were landing pads full of food and that was why the Grackle had taken over. They are not agile birds and need to land to catch food. Once they realized how much food was at their feet, they made all the other birds leave to protect the food source. Wish i had known that earlier! I quickly emptied all the bird feeders and waited for Mr. Grackle to hit the road. It took a few days, but then they appeared gone.

Unfortunately, no pretty-singsongey birds came back that year. They were a little afraid to say the least. But next year, i welcomed them with open arms and a BIG finch feeder, just.for.them!~ The agile birds they are, allows them to stay airborne while feeding, so Mr. Grackle can't get their birdseed. Two seasons in, last night, i realized how many Gold and White Finches i have attracted. They ARE the bird you want around, if you're the type that smiles when you hear birds singing.
With an Alexander Keith's New Tartan Ale in hand, and the glorious fire blazing, DaddyO and i had a blissful evening.

Our Xman

Our little Xman has really come into his own lately! (And who am i kidding, this child is not a 'small' child-- he's very tall, just like DaddyO!)   At almost 3.5yrs, Xman is proving to be quite the joker in our household and even has a few new responses to our queries, "Ha ha!" and "That's So Funny!".  He blurts out these phrases so sweetly you cannot help but laugh.

Xman is also a younger brother.  One day his sister Beebo asked "Why does my brother bother me sooo much?"  My response was simple;  he's your younger brother and his job is to make your life terrible (not really, but you know what i mean?).  He loves to play with his sister, he really does love her dearly.  But he certainly knows how to get that girls goat!

And then sometimes, we all get a big laugh out of Xman's antics-  including girlie.   Xman decided to steal her dress up heels and give us a show!  Here he is tapping like a mini Fred Astaire!

video

It's just not the same when Beebo does it.

Occasionally, we'll also find Xman fluttering around in his sister's dressup clothes.  I have shown this picture before i believe, but a) the picture rocks and b) you all must really see it again!

Known as 'Chucklehead' in these parts!

We love our Xman so much and are thankful every day that he is in our lives. Even girlie. I seriously do not know what that girl would do with herself all day if she didn't have him to boss around or to torture with endless doll play.  Sometimes though they are like peas and carrots... as i write this, i can hear her counting to 20 and making him repeat each number as she goes. Awwwwwwww  I love catching them in these special moments.  Some days, it is all i have to get me through those days of non-stop fighting and bickering.

Rainy Thoughts

It has been raining for a few days now... and yes, we need it.  Especially with the amount of fires already raging in Alberta.  It isn't snow, so woot woot-- but i'm now in a 'rainy kind of mood' and i'm thinking about food!

Warm soup, hot tea, stew, peanut butter toast (say what?)!  I can't stop thinking about warm yummy foods!

What is your favourite, rainy day food?

#Yyc certainly has some of the most terrible weather in all of Canada.
But at least there is a view of the mountains, right?

Bitchy Button Round 2

Just doing some spring cleaning around here and decided to spruce things up a bit! You'll notice a new header, a new Facebook group, and an 'attempt' at a new button.
This post WAS about how i could not make the button work- but i've replaced the code and it should work now. Fingers crossed!

Give it a whirl!

And if you were kind enough to grab my button the first time around, would you please replace it with this new one? I'd really appreciate it.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides *Giveaway*

Captain Jack is back and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES sails into theatres this weekend!~

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humour that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (Penélope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the “Queen Anne’s Revenge,” the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past. The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.

"Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth when a woman from his past (Penélope Cruz) forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane)."

Do You Meal Plan?

Cuz i do not.

I've thought about it.
I've researched it... a bit.
But i still haven't done it.
Anyhow, BIG busy summer coming up!
(I say summer whilst thinking- wth is it still so cold outside?? And, though perennials are peeking up... no trees are budding.  Read: Big Sky Country is now known as Big Cloudy Sky Country. ~sigh~)

I thought having a meal plan might make things easier during this time. Can you, my readers please help me?

What site or program would you suggest i use to build a meal plan?
-I would ideally like it to collect its own grocery list for me to print off.
-Will i be able to add things (dishes/foods) we already enjoy into the meal plan??
-Can i input the activities we have to do during the week? Ie; Soccer, Camp etc.

I'd love to hear your suggestions~

Baby Gourmet Mother's Day Giveaway Winner

First, Happy Mother's Day All! I hope you have all taken a moment to call your Mom, see your Mom, hug and squeeze your Mom (i won't be seeing my Mom, so can someone plz squeeze their Mom again for me??), or simply to have rested your Mommy butt and relaxed. Ah....

Choosing a winner for this contest was certainly tricky!  How does one weigh these fabulous memories? But, a winner must be chosen... so let's just get on with it!

The Baby Gourmet Gift Basket of foods and luxury baby items goes to...

Rachel:
"I have only been a mom for six months and already I have so many wonderful memories. It's hard to choose just one. Since it's Mother's Day I will choose the one that really made me feel like a mom. Noah is my first child and I sometimes I think it's still sinking in that I really am a mom now!
I was at a family gathering with my son Noah, who was four months at the time. He is normally very good with being held by different people. We have a big family so he's used to being passed around a lot. I was in the kitchen helping out. I could see that Noah was starting to get a bit overwhelmed with all the people and noise. He started fussing. Everyone wanted to hold him and be the one to calm him down. Those that weren't taking a turn holding him were yelling out suggestions on what to do (walk with him, say shhhhh, bounce him). I yelled out "I'll be right there", but a few people assured me he'd be fine. By the time I washed my hands and got to him he was crying. I hadn't held him for over an hour. The moment he came into my arms his crying slowed down. There were a few sniffles and then he rested his head on my shoulder. I closed my eyes and gave him a squeeze. He just wanted his Mom, and that was me. I will never forget how that made me feel."

Thank you Rachel for your touching Mommy moment!  I loved reading all of the entries- many brought a tear to my eye.  I had a rather hard time myself, thinking of only the best moment.  Everything in that first year of being a Mommy just flies by!  But, if i were to choose... i vividly remember putting Beebo in a swing around 8/9 months and listening to her just giggle and giggle and giggle!  She always loved the swings (and still does).  That giggle, bless-- pure joy!

Enjoy the Baby Gourmet Noah!
